Sightsavers is an international organisation working to prevent avoidable blindness and support people who are irreversibly blind in developing countries. Sightsavers' vision is of a world where no one is needlessly blind and where everyone who is irreversibly blind or severely visually impaired enjoys the same rights, responsibilities and opportunities as people who are sighted.
1bigpresent asks that you consider donating a small amount from your Gift Fund to Sightsavers. Your gift purchase will contribute towards their general work to restore sight, prevent sight loss and provide services to people who have low vision or who are blind in some of the poorest countries in the world.
£10 - This gift could help provide two trichiasis operations. Trachoma is a disease which affects millions of people in Africa and Asia today. Each infection leaves some scarring on the inside of the eyelids and repeated infections over the years cause trichiasis. This is when the eyelids turn inwards and scrape against the surface of the eye. If left untreated, people can go slowly and painfully blind.
£15 - This gift could provide protection against river blindness for villages in West and Central Africa.
£30 - This gift could provide sight saving cataract surgeries, restoring the sight to those in some of the poorest areas.
£50 - This gift could provide training and education to people who are visually impaired or blind, giving them an opportunity to lead independent lives.
£100 - This gift could contribute to training community volunteers, specialist teachers, nurses and cataract surgeons to ensure that the people in need receive the best possible treatment.
